  • 23 - 26 January 2007 - Tripartite delegation discussed HIV/AIDS prevention in the Altai krai.
    On January 23-26, 2007 the ILO and its tripartite partners delegation visited Barnaul, Altai krai. The delegation consisted of Igor Shanin, Secretary of Federation of Independent Trade-Unions of Russia (FITUR), Mr. Vyacheslav Rozhkov, Director of cooperation with state bodies and public organizations, Coordinating Council of Employers’ Unions of Russia (CCEUR), Ms Elena Kudriavtseva, the ILO Moscow Office Focal Point on HIV/AIDS and the world of work, other specialists of the ILO Moscow Office.
  • 25 January 2007. - Global Employment Trends 2007.
    The number of people unemployed worldwide remained at an historical high in 2006 despite strong global economic growth, the International Labour Office (ILO) said in its annual Global Employment Trends released today. The ILO's "Global Employment Trends Brief 2007" reported that even though more people are working globally than ever before, the number of unemployed remained at an all time high of 195.2 million in 2006 or at a global rate of 6.3 per cent. This rate was almost unchanged from the previous year.

  • 24 January 2007 - Tbilisi brings together employers from Caucasus, Central Asia.
    On January 24, a subregional conference on “Competitiveness and productivity of employers’ associations in the Caucasus and Central Asia” concluded in Tbilisi, Georgia. It was organized by the Georgia Employers’ Association and the International Labour Organization.
    Taking part in the conference were ILO experts, employers of Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, officials from labour, health, social protection and economic development ministries, scientists, trade unionists and business representatives.
  • 17 January 2007. - Employers of Azerbaijan discuss productivity and competitiveness.


    On January 17, the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers’) Organizations of Azerbaijan held a conference to discuss the results of ILO’s project “Capacity-building of employers’ organizations on productivity and competitiveness in the Republic of Azerbaijan”. The project was implemented from July 2005 to January 2007. The project’s goal was to assist members or potential members of employers’ organizations in capacity-building on productivity and competitiveness, improve business education and increase productivity and competitiveness at the national level. Within the framework of the project the ILO conducted a research on productivity and competitiveness from the point of view of business development and programs in personnel management policy, taxation, legislative base, tourism and agriculture in Azerbaijan’s six regions (Guba, Gusara, Khachmaza, Lenkeran, Lerik and Astara). Tripartite partners exchanged opinions on the problems faced by employers and decided to draft recommendations to be submitted to the government for consideration.
