maritime sector. New Convention will guarantee "quality shipping" worldwide.
The International Labour Organization today overwhelmingly adopted a comprehensive new labour standard for the world's maritime
sector, in what ILO Director-General Juan Somavia called a landmark development in the world of work. The new Maritime Labour
Convention, 2006 was adopted by a vote of 314 for, with no votes against and four abstentions at the 94 th International Labour
Conference (Maritime), held here on 7-23 February. The vote marked overwhelming support by delegates from more than 100 countries
representing seafarers, shipowners and governments.

16 February 2006 - Building up responsible attitude towards child labour problem among employers - Seminar in Almaty.
ASTANA, 15 February. KAZINFORM News Agency - The Employers' Confederation of Kazakhstan organized on 17 February in Almaty a
seminar on Child Labour and Corporate Social Responsibility. The International Labour Organization and its International Programme
for the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC)supported the event.
The seminar aims to formulate a position of the Kazakhstan employers regarding a role that civilized business must play in the civil
society development. In this regard the participants will discuss issues of child labour and corporate social responsibility.
The seminar is the first phase of a project on building up responsible attitude towards child labour problem among employers.

7 February 2006 - ILO to adopt 'bill of rights' for seafarers.
The first Maritime Session of the International Labour Conference of the 21st century scheduled here between 7-23 February 2006 will
consider a major new international labour instrument, the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006.
