Verena Schmidt joined ILO SRO Budapest in February 2009. Prior to this assignment, she worked from 2003 in the ILO Bureau for Workers' Activities (ACTRAV). She founded and coordinated the Global Union Research Network and was involved in curriculum development in the Global Labour University. She was the alternate gender coordinator where she carried out two gender audits with the Russian trade union federation and Education International, a global union federation. She was also focal point for multinational enterprises and Corporate Social Responsibility within ACTRAV. She recently published a book on "Trade Union Responses to Globalization" and was the editor of the newly founded "International Journal of Labour Research".
Prior to joining the ILO, Verena Schmidt worked from 1999-2001 at the University of Bremen as research fellow in a comparative research project on socio-economic and institutional gender disparities in EU member states. She was scholar at the Hans Böckler Foundation from 1999-2003 at the University of Bochum where she wrote her Ph.D. thesis on "The Implementation of Gender Mainstreaming in the European Commission".
