Employment, Vocational Training Opportunities and Migration Policy Measures to Prevent and Reduce Trafficking in Women in Albania

The International Migration Programme (MIGRANT) of the ILO has been implementing in Albania, since November 2003, a project on “Employment, Vocational Training Opportunities and Migration Policy Measures to Prevent and Reduce Trafficking in Women in Albania, Moldova and Ukraine” funded by the Irish Government.

The Project aims at strengthening the national capacity of migration management with a focus on the gender and labour dimensions of trafficking.

The Project addresses the needs of actual and potential victims of trafficking directly, through the provision of socio-economic reintegration services as well as indirectly, through legal, policy, institutional and administrative improvements, and better co-ordination of activities among institutions and organizations. To meet the needs of potential victims of trafficking, the Project has proposed to improve the provision of information on safe migration opportunities and access to alternative employment possibilities. The Project has also offered vocational training, training on micro-enterprise development and the provision of micro-credits to facilitate the development of micro-enterprises.

In the delivery of its activities, the Project has benefited from the collaboration of the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, the National Employment Service, the Albanian workers' and employers' organizations, the institutions or NGOs providing services to victims of trafficking, the private employment agencies and the micro-financial institutions.
