The Institutions of the European Union
The exchange of letters between the European Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs,
Ms. A. DIAMANTOPOULOU, and the Director General of the ILO, Mr. J. SOMAVIA, on the 14th of may 2001
has reinforced and enlarged the partnership between the ILO and the EU.
The Brussels Liaison Office has particularly close contacts and relations with :
The Commission of the European Communities.
In particular with these Directorates General who have areas of common interest with the ILO :
The Brussels Office participates in the work of various advisory committees of the Commission, eg the
Advisory Committee on Equal Opportunities between women and men, on Free Movement of Workers, on
Vocational Training and on
Safety, Hygiene and health protection at Work.
The European Parliament
The Brussels Liaison Office also follows the work of several EP committees such as :
