| Main programme purpose |
Development objective : to contribute to the elimination of working street children through strengthening the local initiatives to improve the lives of children and their parents. Immediate objective : to have established the capacity within GAP and the Governate of Diyarbakir (and related Provincial Governmental Directories, particularly, Directories of Social Services and Child protection, Education Health and Child Protection Department of Police) to provide support to working street children, to withdraw 1250 working street children from work and provide them with education, counselling, vocational training, health services, and nutrition and assist selected families through provision of income generation activities and social services. |

Direct recipients : GAP and Governate of Diyarbakir (and related Provincial Governmental Directories, particularly, Directories of Social Services and Child protection, Education Health and Child Protection Department of Police). Intended beneficiaries : 1250 boys and girls between the ages of 6-14 (of whom 250 are expected to use the centre on a day to day basis and 1000 would be reached through outreach activities). Intermediate target group: local administrators and NGOs, media and public. |

Children : More than 800 working children and their families benefited from outreach services of the centre such as literacy courses, computer training, handicrafts, distribution of supplementary nutrition, and medical check-ups.
Communuties : 20 staff from GAP, Governate and local administration were trained on child labour, psycho-social counselling and communication techniques.

| Achievements |
The Governate of Diyarbakir and GAP started to mobilise their own resources to fight against child labour. Two advocacy meetings were held with the local administration, NGOs and university. To be able to raise funs for the centre an association of social workers was established. The centre staff was trained by consultants. A meeting was held between the working street children municipality police to give the opportunity to both parties to know each other and learn about their problems. |

The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee funded the training of centre staff. Two consultants from Israel on “children at risk” came to Diyarbakir and trained the centre staff for a week. |
