The Domestic Workers Convention is adopted in the 100th Session of the International Labour Conference in June 2011

The landmark treaty setting standards for the treatment of domestic workers was adopted at the 100th International Labour Conference in Geneva. The Convention and accompanying Recommendation on decent work for domestic workers aim at protecting and improving the working and living conditions of domestic workers worldwide - estimated to number anywhere between 53 million and 100 million. Hundreds of thousands of women work as domestic workers in Turkey and more and more women migrant workers from Georgia, Moldova and Romania are immigrating to Turkey to work as domestic workers. Through ratification of this Convention and revising the national legislation in line with the Convention, the rights of women domestic workers in Turkey who are deprived of social security coverage will be guaranteed and this will be a significant step forward in combating irregular employment.
