After receiving a degree in Law from University of Ankara, Ms. Gülay Aslantepe began her career in 1972 as a civil servant in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. She served as an Attaché and Counsellor for Labour and Social Security at Bonn, Dusseldorf, Vienna and Bern Turkish Embassies and Consulates. While stationed in Ankara at the Ministry of Labour, she held various department head posts, including the Director General for Turkish Workers Abroad and International Relations and was the first woman Deputy-Undersecretary at the Ministry. She assumed duty on 1 March 1998 as the Director of the ILO-Ankara Office. During her 13 years at the ILO, Ms. Aslantepe was responsible for many programmes and projects aimed to promote Decent Work in Turkey and has retired as of 31 March 2011.
