The International Labour Organization is a UN specialized agency founded in 1919 which seeks the promotion of social justice and internationally recognized human and labour rights. Turkey became a member of ILO in 1932 and the ILO Ankara Office opened in January 1976. As a result of the consultations between the ILO and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the social partners, the government of Turkey allocated land on a diplomatic site in Oran and the ILO Ankara Information Resource Center was inaugurated in 2001. The objectives of the ILO Ankara Office is to represent ILO in Turkey, to promote international labour standards in Turkey, to develop, implement and monitor technical cooperation programmes and projects, to collect and analyze information on Turkey and through the ILO Ankara Information Resource Center, provide public access to ILO publications and the Publication Sales Programme.
