Japanese Parliamentarians' League on the ILO Activities
The Japanese Parliamentarian League on the ILO Activities, multi-partisan forum of parliamentarians, was formed in 1988 by the initiative of Ms. Tamiko Nakanishi, then a member of the parliament and Deputy Director, ILO Tokyo Branch Office.
Its initial objective was to enhance Japanese governmental support to the ILO technical cooperation activities. It also aimed at supporting the Governments' efforts to ratify ILO conventions as well as promoting strategic ways of support to the ILO activities such as establishing closer relationships between Japan and the ILO and increase in the number of Japanese ILO staff.
Recent activities include field visits in Asia, facilitation of the procedure of ratifying ILO conventions, in particular 182 (2001) and support to obtain UN Human Security Fund. It also undertook a number of briefing sessions with ILO senior staff and dissemination of information on important ILO activities to a large number of parliamentarians.
