2004 World Day for Safety and Health at Work emblem

Workers, employers, governments and safety and health departments around the world, in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO), observe the World Day for Safety and Health at Work on 28 April. This represents an effort to highlight the need for a new "safety culture" to reduce or prevent occupational accidents and diseases that take an average of 6,000 lives every day of the year. In commemoration of this year's World Day, and on the basis of its theme "Creation and Promotion of a Safety and Health Culture," the ILO Office in Japan (ILO-Tokyo) has launched an online event for information sharing and dialogue in Japan.

Although the Forum itself is run in Japanese language, we have created this English summary page to promote international sharing of the collected information as well as to invite comments on the Forum from non-Japanese readers. In order to create and promote safety and health culture at work in Japan, the Forum is organized around three themes, all concerning safety and health culture at work: (i) collection of information on actual practices/actions, (ii) innovative ideas and (iii) information needs on occupational safety and health, followed with dialogues. We are currently engaged in English translation of collected information, which will be gradually carried on web, posting by posting on completion. We welcome your comments.
