INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM

ON

TRAFFICKING OF WOMEN TO JAPAN

The Asia Foundation, in co-operation with the International Labor Organization and with the help of the Japan CSO Network will host a symposium on the serious, but largely ignored problem of trafficking of women to Japan. This symposium is aimed at increasing awareness within Japan of the role that Japan plays as a destination country in the spread of international trafficking in persons.

The trafficked women come from countries such as Thailand, the Philippines, and more recently from Colombia, Russia and Eastern Europe. The symposium will provide an opportunity for the airing of views on trafficking in persons from various perspectives: NGOs assisting trafficked victims, law-enforcement agencies, the diplomatic community and policy-makers.
