ILO Forum commemorating
World Day for Safety and Health at Work
"Safety, Health and
Environment at Work:
Demand for international cooperation"
|
Everyone desires a decent life with good levels of safety, health and environment at work. But, the real life of people is different, affected by the
development stage of his/her own country. It is said that there exists a
vicious circle of low productivity, low wages, malnutrition, diseases and low
working capacity, by which the country's development stage itself is affected.
Current estimates point to some 2 million men and women who lose their
lives through work-related accidents and diseases each year. If we neglect
dangers and health hazards at work, the general environment of a community will
be jeopardized. This means that safety and health at work is a basic
requirement for decent life with care for sustainable environment.
The ILO will observe an annual World Day for Safety and Health at Work
on and around 28 April world-wide. This year's overarching theme is "Promoting
a Safety Culture at Work". On this occasion, a forum is organized by ILO Office
in Japan (This new name of our office is effective as from 1 April 2003, changed
from ILO Tokyo Branch Office due
to reorganization of ILO field structure) in cooperation with concerned
organizations to commemorate the World Day in Japan.
