Welcome to the ILO Office for Pacific Island Countries Website
The primary objective of the ILO Office for Pacific Island Countries is to assist Governments', Employers' and Workers' Organisations of the Pacific Island Countries in their efforts to reduce Decent Work deficits (as part of a global goal) and to pursue development for dignity through the achievements of rights at work; employment; social protection and social dialogue.

The office serves 22 South Pacific Island countries. eight of these, Fiji , (joined in 1974) Papua New Guinea (joined in 1976), Solomon Islands (joined in 1984), Kiribati (joined in 2000), Vanuatu (joined in 2004) , Samoa (joined in 2005), Marshall Islands (joined July 2007) and most recently Tuvalu (joined May 2008) are full members of the ILO.

Tuvalu becomes 182nd ILO Member
Tuvalu has become the 182nd Member State of the ILO following receipt in Geneva of a letter from Mr Apisai Ielemia, Prime Minister and also Minister of Foreign Affairs and Labour, stating on behalf of the Government that Tuvalu had formally accepted the obligations of the ILO Constitution.

DECENT WORK FOR ALL IN THE PACIFIC
Decent Work Country Programmes (DWCPs) are the operational framework for ILO activities in the ILO member countries including the eight Pacific member countries Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, PNG, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.


TACKLING CHILD LABOUR IN FIJI AND PNG
The European Commission, the Ministries of Education and Labour and the ILO have signed Partnership Protocol Agreements in Fiji and Papua New Guinea to TACKLE child labour. The TACKLE project – Tackling Child Labour Through Education supports the capacity of national and local authorities to formulate, implement and enforce policies and programmes to fight child labour.

An overview of the ILO Youth Employment Programme
Recognizing the urgent need to respond to the challenge of youth unemployment and
underemployment in the Pacific, the ILO Office for Pacific Island Countries, in collaboration with ILO constituents, launched in April 2008, the ILO Sub-regional Programme on Youth Employment Programme (YEP): RAS/06/53/ NET – Education, Employability and Decent Work for Youth in Pacific Island Countries.
YEP is aimed at contributing to improved employability and decent work for young men
and women in Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
