The Football for Hope Resource Programme was started in Sialkot following the completion of the ILO-IPEC Soccer Ball project. It promotes football to support the education and rehabilitation of former working children and those vulnerable to child labour. At the end of this project children withdrawn from child labour or at risk of child labour will benefit from educational programmes and through specific football and sports activities. This will help develop further understanding on combating and preventing the worst forms of child labour and in education and social mobilization through football and sports activities, more broadly.
Some of the key achievements under this project include:
- improvements to the infrastructure of schools in the areas at the primary and secondary level;
- professionally qualified teachers have been recruited within the school system;
- four vocational training and skills training centres have been established;
- 900 children were medically insured under the project and free medical services were provided to these children;
- 15 football ground have been established; and
- 30 football clubs under 14 (nine girls and 21 boys) have been formed under the project.
