Publications

Established in 1919, and since 1946 a member of the United Nations, the International Labour Organization has focused on workplace issues, actively seeking to create decent work for all - work which is freely chosen and performed in an environment of equity, security and human dignity. While promoting individual and collective rights at work, social protection and occupational safety and health, the encourages social dialogue and supports an open and constructive industrial relations policy between governments, employers and workers.

The ILO conducts research into these and a range of other issues in the ever changing world of work and publishes the results in the form of timely and authoritative publications, reports, training manuals, CD-ROMs, videos and e-books. ILO research contributes to enhancing public awareness of crucial labour and employment issues in subject areas such as:

While focusing primarily on employment in the global economy, the ILO publications programme provides relevant research findings and practical solutions to workplace problems for workers and employers in developing, transition and industrial economies.

New publications

  • The worldwide movement against child labour. Progress and future direction
    This study provides the first systematic analysis of the worldwide movement against child labour. It argues that the intellectual and policy frameworks first articulated by the ILO in the 1980s remain important.
  • A manual for gender audit facilitators
    A step-by-step approach is used that leads facilitators through each stage of the audit process, culminating with a set of recommendations and an action plan on how to improve the gender mainstreaming strategy in a given institutional setting.
