Working with Trade Unions
Workers' organizations are an important partner in implementation of project activities. A package for training and advocacy with unions has been developed and used extensively. The project has trained 732 TU representatives as trainers/peer educators in TOT programmes organized at central as well as state levels.
Central trade unions are engaged in HIV/AIDS Workplace Programmes in collaboration with the ILO. In order to provide policy guidelines on HIV/AIDS in India the Central Trade Unions have developed a Joint Statement of Commitment on HIV/AIDS. The Statement is endorsed by key central trade unions: AITUC, BMS, CITU, HMS, INTUC.
This Statement also has annexures on Basic Questions and Answers on HIV/AIDS, Case Studies on Trade Union Action on HIV/AIDS and Frequently Asked Questions/Answers on HIV/AIDS.
