ILO Global Report On Child Labour 2006 - The Philippine Launch
In the Philippines, the Global Report on Child
Labour was launched at a press briefing hosted
by the Foreign Correspondents Association of
the Philippines (FOCAP) at 10 a.m., Thursday,
4 May 2006 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
ILO Subregional Office (SRO) for South-East
Asia and Pacific Director Linda Wirth presented
key messages from the Global Report.
The presentation of ILO-SRO Director Wirth was followed by messages coming from the
stakeholders of the National Program Against Child Labor (NPACL) in the Philippines.
These included the following:
- Ms. Teresita del Rosario, Senior Labor and Employment Officer of the
Bureau of Young Workers-Department of Labor and Employment;
- Ms. Carmelita Ericta, Administrator of the National Statistics Office;
- Mr. Ariel Castro, Education Officer of the Trade Union Congress of the
Philippines;
- Ms. Loida Ty, National Union of Workers in Hotel, Restaurant and Allied
Industries;
- Mr. Roland Moya, Deputy Director General of the Employers’
Confederation of the Philippines; and
- Ms. Ma. Cecilia Flores-Oebanda, President of the Visayan Forum
Foundation, Inc.
The ILO-IPEC Support to the NPACL was, likewise, presented by Ms. Serenidad Lavador,
Chief Technical Adviser of the ILO-IPEC Time-Bound Programme.
In her closing remarks, ILO-SRO Director Wirth said that ILO has been a driving force in
collaboration with a growing diversity of actors to eliminate child labor. The mass media
have also responded to the rising international profile of child labor and are becoming
strong partners in eliminating child labor, particularly its worst forms.

ILO Global Report on Child Labour 2006 On ABS-CBN
The Global Report on Child Labour was featured in an afternoon news
program last Friday, 5 May 2005.
ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) 23 focused its episode on the major
findings of the Global Report via its 4 p.m. segment, “ANC Chat,” hosted by Ms.
Lia Andanar.
Representing the ILO-SRO Manila were Mr. Temesgen
Samuel, Senior International Labor Standards Specialist; and
Ms. Serenidad Lavador, Chief Technical Adviser of the ILOIPEC
Time-Bound Programme.
ILO Global Report on Child Labour On NBN Channel 4
The ILO Global Report on Child Labour 2006 was featured anew in
an afternoon news program on Monday, 22 May 2006. The National
Broadcasting Network (NBN) Channel 4 focused a segment on child labor in
its daily show, “Serbisyo Muna” (Service First) at 2 p.m., hosted by Mr. Alan
Allanigue (photo below, right).
