The training material for local level union representatives has been developed as the basic resource material for a five day course. Particular sections of the material can be used to support shorter courses. Each chapter introduces a topic and contains a group activity linked to that topic. The areas covered by the material are:

Planning your Union's Education  (Merencanakan Pendidikan Serikat Pekerja Anda)

This short resource material provides model training programmes for education activities of between one and five days. Union educators can use these as they are, or adapt these model programmes to meet the requirements of particular groups of members.

In recent years there has been a growing awareness that exposure to asbestos dust can have very harmful effects on the health of workers. This material is a translation of the ILO code of practice on safety in the use of asbestos. Its contents include:

The ILO workers education project conducts a programme of "Introduction to information technology" training for unions.   This training has a focus on how unions can use information technology to improve thier administration, organisation and services to members.  The material contains short introductions and linked activities on the following subjects:

A trade union guide to Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSP)

This is an adaptation of a guide produced by the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions.  It explains the significance of the PRSP process, the role of the International Financial Institutions, and the need for unions to have an input to the PRSP process.  In particular the guide looks at:

ILO Code of Practice on Safety and Health in Forestry Work
(Kode Praktis ILO: Keselamatan dan Kesehatan Kerja di Kehutanan)

This is a Bahasa Indonesia version of Safety and Health in Forestry Work published by the ILO Geneva, 1998.

The Code aims to protect workers from occupational safety and health hazards in forestry works and to prevent or reduce illness and injury by providing guidelines on:

Key components of safety policies and procedures at national, enterprise and worker levels;
The establishment of frameworks for consultation and cooperation on safety, health, and welfare;
Basic requirements governing the execution of forest operations so that risks are minimized;
A system for recording, reporting, and monitoring occupational accidents and diseases; and
A framework for the allocation of responsibility among the organizations and individuals, which can collectively contribute to a positive
   attitude to safety and health.

The document is also equipped with a glossary of technical terms, relevant international labor standards, ISO and European standards, and other relevant international classifications.   

This material has been used as the core resource on a pilot programme of training which introduces concepts of strategic planning for trade unions, and considers how unions can use planning to meet some key challenges. The material also deals with some current economic and social policy issues and how unions can develop their role on these matters.  The material's contents include:
