Bring People to Work to People

Special Edition on Timor-Leste (pdf-700kb)

Estimates suggest that as many as 15,000 young people will enter the labour market each year over the next four years. In addition, the opportunities for the creation of full-time wage employment are limited. Currently only about 13 percent of men and 9 percent of women are engaged in formal employment.

“There is a strong need for adopting strategies that will focus, at least in the short-term, on self-employment and informal sector activities. Job creations and opportunities are also becoming increasingly urgent as the working-age population expands rapidly in a jobless environment,” said the ILO Country Director in Indonesia, Alan Boulton.

To promote economic growth and income generation in the country, as well as to provide better employment opportunities, the ILO has been providing supports and trainings in a close collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Community Reinsertion (MLCR).
