Areas of work: Poverty alleviation, employment creation
Region/Country: China
Donor: United Kingdom (DFID)
Start date: July 2006
End date: June 2007

The Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) China program Phase III is implemented jointly by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MOLSS) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) with financial inputs from the British Department for International Development (DFID). Built on the foundation of the 2-year implementation of the Phase I and II of the project, SIYB project phase III draws on the local institutional capacity established since 2004. The project demonstrates with pilots how to reach particularly vulnerable target groups among the local migrant community with business start-up training and related services, and it will then mainstream these innovative approaches throughout the national SIYB China Programme.

The objective of the project is to facilitate the socio-economic integration of particularly vulnerable target groups among the local migrant community by enabling them to start-up and run their own small social businesses. It coverse western cities and provinces in China, including Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, Shaanxi, Shanxi and Chongqing.
