Department of Labour

The website presents the JobsNet and provides a link to this site, which links the users to the skills and professional and retraining organizations and job counseling and recruitment centres that serve as the JobsNet extension arm for providing training and counseling services. The website introduces also the training functions of the Career Guidance Division and the 5S Training Programme of the National Productivity Secretariat Division.

Department of Technical Education and Training

The Department of Technical Education and Training (DTET) is one of the key organizations under the Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational and Technical Education (MSDVTE), as a training provider, responsible for the management of 36 technical colleges in Sri Lanka. Links on the website do not function.

Industrial  Development Board (IDB)

The Industrial  Development Board (IDB) was established under the Industrial Development Act No. 36 of 1969 for the encouragement,  promotion and development of  industries in Sri Lanka. It functions under the Ministry of Small and Rural Industries. The website presents the training programs of the IDB.

Ministry of Agricultural Marketing Development. Co-operative Development, Hindu Affairs and Minister Assisting Education & Vocational Training

The website presents the Vocational Training Unit and the Information Technology Parks Unit.

Ministry of Vocational and Technical Training

The website presents the authorities and the institutes under the Ministry, the foreign funded skills development projects and some statistics. It provides a link to the Skills Development Project  which has as its mission to develop an efficient and sustainable TEVT system to produce competent employable manpower to meet the industry needs.

National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA)

National Apprenticeship Board ( NAB), the predecessor to the present National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) was established in 1971 by an act of Parliament. The NAITA functions within the purview of the Ministry of Tertiary Education and Training. The NAITA conduct island wide training programmes aimed at small, medium and large scale enterprises. The website presents its training institutes, the enterprise based training and the certification.

National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA)

The NAQDA was established in 1999.  It is the main state sponsored organization mandated for the task of development of the aquaculture and inland fisheries sector in Sri Lanka. Presently, it is coming under the purview of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources. Training activities are organized by NAQDA for farmers as well as the officers of other public and private sector organizations who are involved in aquaculture. Presently training facilities are available in Aquaculture Development Centres at Uda Walawe and Dambulla. Plans are underway to construct a full-fledged new training centre at Kalawewa with the support of ADB funded aquaculture Resource Development and Quality Improvement Project. Training Programs are arranged on demand-oriented basis upon the request of interested parties and training programs are arranged through the Regional Extension Officer of NAQDA in respective areas. National Human Resources Development Council (NHRDC)

The Council falls within the purview of the Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational and Technical Education. One of its duties is to implement projects related to employment, training and education. So far the website has nothing on training.

Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE)

The SLBFE is a Public Corporation established by Act of Parliament in 1985. One of its functions is to train and certificate  prospective migrants. The website has a list of the District Training Centres.

Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC)

Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) is the apex body in the Tertiary and Vocational Education and Training sector of Sri Lanka. It works under the overall guidance of the Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational and Technical Education and in close consultation with private sector. The website provides information on National Vocational Qualifications, National Skill Standards, registration and accreditation of training institutions and courses, NQV promotional programs and VET agencies.

Vocational Training Authority (VTA)

Established in July 1995 under the provisions of the Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka Act, the VTA offers skills training through a network of 4 National Vocational Training Institutes, 14 District Vocational Training Centres, 6 Special Vocational Training Centres, and 199 Rural Vocational Training Centres. The website presents the institutes, centers and courses.

Youth Employment Network

This is a public, private, and civil society partnership, facilitate to enhance employment opportunities for young Sri Lankans and focusing to establish a Sri Lankan partner network of youth employment generation programmes. The website provides a list of the Vocational Training Authority Centers.

Institutions

National Institue of Business Management (NIBM)

The National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) was established in 1968 under the purview of the Ministry of Industries and Scientific Affairs in collaboration with the UNDP, with the ILO functioning as the executing agency. In May 2004 the NIBM was brought under the purview of the Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational and Technical Education. In the field of management and productivity the NIBM offers the mature and employed student the opportunity to obtain well recognized qualifications in diverse fields through the twelve diploma programs in the English and Sinhala media as well as the numerous Certificate and short term courses available. The website presents the programs, courses and training centers of the NIBM.

National Institute of Technical Education (NITESL)

Established in 1983 the Institute became a statutory body in the year 1999 under the Ministry of Technical and Vocational Training. It provides services of Human Resources Development, Curriculum Development and Instructional Resources Development for the Tertiary and Vocational Education and Training Sector in Sri Lanka. The website presents these functions.

Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT)

Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) is the leading degree awarding institute in Sri Lanka in the field of Information Technology. The SLIIT was established in 1999 to educate and train IT professionals required by the fast growing IT industry in Sri Lanka. The website presents the courses and programs of the SLIIT.
