Description
In Pakistan, the target areas are the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) and Punjab Province. The target groups are the rural poor, specifically, women, disenfranchised male youth, and persons with disabilities. The project's strategic development objective is increased economic opportunities and security in the target areas.
The project will focus on improving the knowledge and skills of the target groups, and economic status of disadvantaged communities. The target groups will be given training in skills development, together with the supporting literacy and small business skills, and assistance with obtaining credit. This will enable them to generate income through self-employment or small business opportunities, particularly in agriculture or related business. It will also make full use of the ILO’s partners (workers’ and employers’ organizations) to identify employment opportunities and obtain work. The project will build on the earlier and on-going assistance to Pakistan by the ILO and the Bureau of International Affairs, Department of Labour (DOL-ILAB), as well as the assistance programmes of other major donors. Project staff will work in close consultation with national provincial authorities to ensure that the project builds local capacity and creates thriving economic systems in the targeted communities.
