BANGKOK
(ILO NEWS) - A new
web site has been set up by the Office of the ILO Liaison Officer in
Yangon to increase awareness of the ILO’s work on forced labour in
Myanmar
. The site in English, can
be found at: http://www.ilo.org/public/english/region/asro/yangon/.
A Burmese language version is under development.
The
launch of the web site follows the agreement on a “Supplementary
Understanding” reached on 15 February 2007 between the ILO and the
Government of Myanmar. This
establishes a mechanism to deal with complaints on forced labour.
The
issue of forced labour in
Myanmar
will be discussed at the 298th session of the ILO’s
Governing Body which is currently meeting in
Geneva
. The debate will take
place in the week beginning 26th March. The latest reports on the situation in
