The
report, entitled “The end of child labour: Within reach”* is to be
launched on 4 May at a wide range of events globally, including the
ILO’s American Regional Meeting in Brasilia, Brazil with ILO
Director-General Juan Somavia. In
The report and all associated media and information
materials are under embargo and not for publication, broadcast or
quotation before 1400 GMT on Thursday, 4 May. The
report has been prepared by the ILO Declaration on Fundamental
Principles and Rights at Work and the ILO’s International Programme
on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC) and provides the most recent
and wide-ranging assessment currently available on the extent of child
labour and international efforts to stop it. Four
years ago the ILO provided the first global report allowing a reliable
assessment of the child labour situation and calling for the creation
of an effective strategy to stop child labour. This year’s report
will present a new global agenda, building on lessons learned over the
past years to achieve further progress in the elimination of child
labour. The
report

offices. An executive summary of the report will be available
in Arabic, English, French, German, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. A
press release will be available from Tuesday 2 May under the
above embargo. Video
news releases and file footage on child labour in different regions
of the world are available to broadcasters. Please contact the ILO
