Thursday 28th
April is World Day for Safety and Heath at Work.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) is marking the day with a commemoration ceremony for those killed
and injured at work, and the launch of a new report, focusing on
safety and health in the construction industry and among older and
younger workers.
The commemoration ceremony will be held at the Thai Labour Museum,
503/20 Nikom Makkasan Road, Ratchathewi, Bangkok 10400, beginning at
9.30am. The event will include a minute of silence, the traditional
candle lighting, a performance by the Paradon musicians of
specially-chosen songs, and speeches from leading representatives of
workers’ and employers’ groups and the ILO.
The
new ILO report, “Prevention: a global strategy. Promoting Safety and
Health at Work”, includes data on deaths, accidents and injuries at
work, worldwide. Key facts and statistics about the construction
industry confirm it is one of the riskiest jobs to have. Separate
statistics from
Thailand
will
also be available and confirm the hazardous nature of this expanding
industry – accounting for 1 in 6 work-related deaths and 1 in 4
total permanent disabilities in
Thailand
.
The media are invited to cover the
commemoration ceremony. Copies of the report,
Thailand
fact sheet and posters (in English or
Thai), will be available at the event or directly from the ILO.
