IPEC
SURAC
SURAC 8-9 September, 2005:

Through the gracious hosting of the Royal Thai Government's Ministry of Labour, ILO-IPEC convened the 3rd Session of the Sub-regional Advisory Committee of the Mekong Project to Combat Trafficking in Children and Women (SURAC) from 8-9 September, 2005 in Bangkok. The theme was "Policy Mainstreaming: The Labour and Employment Perspective in Taking Action Against Human Trafficking."

More than 40 particpants from Governments, Workers' and Employers' Organizations from Cambodia, China (Yunnan), Lao PDR, Thailand and Viet Nam discussed their countries' present efforts to prevent human trafficking and discussed ways the tri-partite groups could work together in the future, as well as in conjunction with the TICW project, to add to the momentum of anti-trafficking activites across the sub-region from a labour-standards perspective, and with a special emphasis on the needs of migrant workers to ensure they are better protected from traffickers. The Committee also made recommendations for future SURAC activites.
