| The project addresses trafficking in
children and women preventively and holistically
and is designed for and implemented at sub-regional
level, incorporating five different countries.
Sub-regional, national, provincial / district
and community level are actively inter-linked
in the project through regular cross sharing
of information, and reporting on lessons
learned in targeted sites in such a way
that they inform future policy making:
Following project approaches are special
features of the project and are applied
in each of the countries:
- Participation and Ownership: The project
has emphasized genuine participation in
all its forms right from the start, in
particular the need to listen to key stakeholders
and village beneficiaries in order to
take on board their intimate knowledge
of the local situation and the issues
surrounding trafficking as they experience
them. More…
- Holistic and Integrated: A holistic
and integrated approach has been intrinsic
to the design of the project, which is
addressing trafficking in children and
women as a multi-faceted problem. More…
- Replication, Mainstreaming and Empowerment:
Replication is seen as essential for the
project if the same problem exists elsewhere
and can be addressed in those areas in
a similar way or with some modification.
- Multi-level Interventions: The overall
aim of coordination at different levels
within the project is to add value to
each other's work, avoid duplication of
effort and wastage of resources, and to
create solidarity and strength in advocacy.

- Information Sharing / Interagency Collaboration:
Trafficking in children and women is a
complex issue which has many social and
cultural dimensions and is therefore of
concern to many and varied institutions,
governmental and non-governmental, which
are active in similar or related fields.
- Child-focused: The project takes an
approach in which children are the focus
of design, implementation and evaluation
of project interventions and activities
addressing their situation. More…
- Integrated Gender Component: Measures
to prevent trafficking in children and
women have to address practical and strategic
gender needs throughout the project. These
relate to inadequacies in living and working
conditions of the target groups as well
as to inequalities between men and women.
