Working to Prevent Human Trafficking and Labour Exploitation

Across South-East Asia millions of people are on the move. For most it is a positive and rewarding experience. However, sub-regional trends toward uninformed and ill-prepared migration have created a dangerous vacuum in which human traffickers are able to exploit migrants, especially children and women. Adult migration, and how to regulate it to the advantage of both the migrants and the sending and receiving countries, is becoming an urgent priority for many ILO member states. Preventing the trafficking and labour exploitation of children and young people is an obligation of ILO members which have ratified Convention 182 on the Worst Forms of Child Labour.

Showcasing our Research & Proven Practices

This project has spent eight years researching, collaborating with partners and implementing a series of proven approaches and practices to combat human trafficking in the GMS. Although the project closed in late 2008, the research, its findings and a series of 'proven practices' and tools are available for free download on this Website.

There are more than two dozen proven practices developed sub-regionally and in five countries of the GMS. Eleven tools are also available here. Below are just a few of our most popular reports and guidelines developed in collaboration with partners from across the GMS.
