| As the United Nations agency tasked with
upholding international labour standards,
minimum age for work, and the elimination
of the worst forms of child labour, the ILO
has an authoritative voice, and established
partnerships with Governments, Workers and
Employers groups.
When it comes to fighting human trafficking
in the Greater Mekong Sub-region and combating
the exploitation of migrants, especially
children and women, the comparative advantage
of the ILO and its International Programme
on the Elimination of Child Labour – IPEC
– is clear.
ILO Convention 182 (Elimination
of Worst Forms of Child Labour) was
adopted unanimously by delegates at the
International Labour Conference in 1999
and has the fastest record of ratification
by member states of any ILO Convention in
more than 80 years.
The Governments of all five GMS countries
in the TICW project area have now ratified
C 182. The project is now in the process
of uploading available translated copies
of C 182 and its Recommendation (R 190)
- an non-binding ILO guide to its members
for their implementation. Full translation
of all five GMS languages to be completed
by mid-2006.
Thailand ratified C182 in 2001
