ILO/FINNIDA Asian-Pacific Regional
Programme on Occupational Safety and Health
The
ILO/FINNIDA Asian-Pacific Regional Programme on Occupational Safety and Health
(ASIA-OSH), a technical cooperation project carried out in 20 countries in Asia
and the Pacific region, successfully completed in 2002.
The
programme contributed substantially to strengthen national and regional safety
and health information systems, and occupational safety and health (
OSH
) policies and programme. The participating countries were; Bangladesh, Bhutan,
Cambodia, China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal,
Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Republic of Korea, Singapore,
Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Viet Nam. The project was funded by the
Government of Finland and implemented by the International Labour Office
(ILO).
The
major project outputs were;
establishment
and implementation of national policies on
OSH
information dissemination and national
OSH
campaigns;
launching
of new
OSH
information units within the government to collect, arrange and disseminate
practical
OSH
information for workers and employers;
building
and maintenance of the Asian-Pacific Network on Occupational Safety and
Health, and linking it to the world-wide ILO Occupational Safety and Health
Information Centres’ (ILO/CIS Centres) network;
publishing
periodically the Asian-Pacific Newsletter on Occupational Health and Safety
in collaboration with Finnish Institute of Occupational Health;
developing
easy-to-use
OSH
information databases in cooperation with ILO/CIS Centre;
publication
of
OSH
information materials in chemical safety and other fields.
