  APSDEP's main functions include: 
  • conducting research and providing training to ILO member States on a range of vocational training issues related to changing labour market needs (e.g. financial crisis, industrialization, globalization and upgrading of skills in the manufacturing industry); 
  • assisting ILO member States to improve access to vocational training for specific groups including women, youth, people with disabilities, and elderly;
  • promoting social dialogue and tripartite participation in training; 
  • promoting partnerships and strengthening the role of the private sector in vocational training;
  • sharing of experiences, expertise and information in vocational training; 
  • fostering technical cooperation in vocational training among participating countries; and
  • strengthening the capacity of workers and employers organizations to plan and implement skills training.
