| This publication critically reviews the current status of in-plant training (IPT) and looks to future prospects in the region. It is based on the proceedings of the Regional Seminar/Study Tour on Institutional Support for In-Plant Training, held at Chiba, Japan in 1994, which was aimed at improving information exchange on various aspects of IPT among participating countries. The publication provides several perspectives on the subject, including those of countries where considerable progress has been made in professional management of the skill development portfolio; those of countries which still have a long way to go in formulating and implementing coherent skill development policies and strategies; those of participating employers' representatives; and those of various resource persons. The authors stress the importance of a "systems view" approach, which encompasses the various aspects of IPT, their interlinkages and the resulting capability of an IPT system to achieve its objectives. In this publication, rather than individual papers publishing the papers in sequence as presented, information from the various papers has been synthesised and related to the relevant issues. | ||
