How to Integrate Disabled workers into Factories

New ILO training module available

The ILO’s Factory Improvement Programme, in cooperation with the AbilityAP Disability Programme, has developed a training package targeted to human resource and management personnel to assist them in integrating disabled workers into their workplaces. The Disability in the Workplace training package addresses the following topics: What is a Disability; Developing Your Strategy; Implementing Your Strategy; and Disability Etiquette. Currently in draft form, the training package was field tested in Sri Lanka and Viet Nam in 2006 with positive results. Well-known multinational companies in Viet Nam will continue to implement the training among the subcontractors throughout the country.

The training package is available at no charge and can be used in a variety of workplaces, not just factories. A similar package on HIV/AIDS in the workplace was also developed and field-tested. Both modules are part of a comprehensive training system designed to assist factories improve their competitiveness and productivity. The training system consists of 8 core modules (in addition to disability and HIV/AIDS) on topics such as workplace cooperation, health and safety, productivity, and others.
