Our activities

AbilityAP represents the ILO's Disability Programme in Asia and the Pacific. The programme promotes basic human rights and training and employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Our activities can be organized around building a knowledge base, advocacy and technical cooperation.

Knowledge: The ILO efforts to build a knowledge base includes conducting research, e.g., see the Regional Research Project on Laws and Policies in Regional Activities; identifying good practice examples (e.g. see Moving Forward toward Decent Work for People with Disabilities---Examples of Good Practices in Vocational Training and Employment from Asia and the Pacific in the Publications section); and disseminating information (e.g., see Publications section).

Advocacy: The ILO advocates for decent work for people with disabilities through its conventions, recommendations and codes of practice, and through it activities to promote and implement national laws and policies that are in line with ILO standards. For example, see the Promoting Employability and Employment for People with Disabilities through Effective Legislation (PEPDEL) project, in Regional Activities.

Technical Cooperation:  The ILO technical cooperation activities include, designing and implementing projects (e.g., see the Alleviating Peer Training project in Cambodia), providing training for constituents (e.g., see activities with the China Disabled Persons Federation in China), and sponsoring workshops, meetings conferences, and symposia (e.g., see the ILO Expert Group Meeting on Inclusion of People with Disabilities in Vocational Training).

These Web pages describe the most current ILO activities in the region and in individual countries where we have worked.
