Towards the Elimination of Child Labour in Lebanon: Forging Partnerships, Accelerating Action
A national stakeholder consultation engaging members of the public and private sectors, academia and civil society who are working to eliminate child labour. The event will review ILO studies on child labour in Lebanon over the last decade, as well as key findings of statistical research on child labour undertaken in partnership with the Saint Joseph University. The meeting aims to build a common understanding and forge a consensus on future action targeting the worst forms of child labour.

This meeting will aims at contributing toward the achievement of UNAIDS strategy: “Getting to Zero” through the world of work. Protection of human rights at work by implementation of Recommendation no.200 is expected to contribute towards the goal of zero AIDS related discrimination. Up scaling HIV prevention programmes in the world of work would contribute towards the goal of zero HIV infections.

The ILO’s most recent global estimate is that 115 million children are involved in hazardous work. This is work that by its nature or the circumstances in which it is carried out, is likely to harm children’s health, safety or morals. Children working in many different industries and occupations can be exposed to such risks and the problem is global, affecting industrialised as well as developing countries.

The sub-regional workshop on Cooperatives will be held from 23-26 November 2010 in Beirut, Lebanon. Workshop on Role of Trade Unions in Promoting Decent Work for Domestic Workers in Arab Countries
The role of regional trade unions in promoting decent work for domestic workers will be discussed at a workshop organized by the ILO Regional Office for Arab States and the Bureau for Workers’ Activities (ACTRAV).
