The Regional Office in Beirut covers in 11 countries: Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, UAE, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain. 24 January 2012 - The world faces the "urgent challenge" of creating 600 million productive jobs over the next decade in order to generate sustainable growth and maintain social cohesion, according to the ILO annual report on global employment by the International Labour Organization.

13 December 2011 - Unemployment, inequality and glaring social dialogue deficits must be tackled through a coordinated and coherent response by all development players, according to some 60 representatives of five UN agencies and employers' and workers' organizations from over eight Arab countries gathering in Beirut from 13-14 December.

15 February 2012, Beirut, Lebanon Towards the Elimination of Child Labour in Lebanon: Forging Partnerships, Accelerating Action A national stakeholder consultation engaging members of the public and private sectors, academia and civil society who are working to eliminate child labour. The event will review ILO studies on child labour in Lebanon over the last decade, as well as key findings of statistical research on child labour undertaken in partnership with the Saint Joseph University. The meeting aims to build a common understanding and forge a consensus on future action targeting the worst forms of child labour.
