  • Leader guide to teaching, from initiative to method - Europe (2001)
Since LEADER I was launched in 1991, much work has been done in the rural areas involved in this Community Initiative programme, not only in the "field" in terms of implementing development projects, but also on methodology.
How shall we go about it?" and "What are others doing?" are two key questions that have been exhaustively discussed within the LEADER network through seminars, publications, personal contacts, etc. Between June and September 2000, the LEADER European Observatory organised three European seminars on the theme of "Sharing the lessons of the LEADER Initiative". The European Commission wanted these seminars to culminate in a teaching tool that would "model" the lessons learned from the programme, enabling rural players from Europe and elsewhere to reap the benefits of the LEADER experience.
  • Promoting an integrated approach to rural development in developing countries for eradication of poverty and sustainable development- UN-Commission on the Status of Women (2003)
The Economic and Social Council, in its resolution 2001/27 of 26 July 2001, invited its functional commissions to provide concise, action-oriented input to its annual high-level and/or coordination segments. At its high-level segment of 2003, the Council will consider "Promoting an integrated approach to rural development in developing countries for eradication of poverty and sustainable development". The present note provides an overview of actions contained in the Beijing Platform for Action, the outcome document of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly, and relevant resolutions of the General Assembly and agreed conclusions of the Commission on the Status of Women aimed at the situation of women in rural areas. This information could assist the Commission on the Status of Women, should it consider providing an input to the Council's 2003 high-level segment."

  • Construyendo nuestra historia (Building our history) - 10 years of AMRU - Association of rural women of Uruguay - 2004
By recovering its history, directed to enhancing and supporting association making and the labour development of Uruguayan women, AMRU introduces what it has learned in order to integrate the training of female leaders with the technical and managerial training for productive association development and the implementation of joint strategies of trade and marketing.
  • El Desarrollo Rural Sostenible en el Marco de una Nueva Lectura de la Ruralidad: La nueva ruralidad (Sustainable rural development in the context of a new reading of the rural reality: The new rurality). IICA/CEDER - (2000)
The social, economic, cultural and political changes that have been taking place as a result of globalisation affect agriculture and the rural environment.
These changes offer opportunities and challenges that are expressed in new demands that may contribute to improving inequity and sustainability conditions of the environment - problems that call for urgent attention from our society.
Approaching rurality from the point of view of territory, rural-urban interrelationships and the multiple options it offers, both in the rural and non-rural environment, gives a number of opportunities to contribute to rural development and enhancing democracy, as it was pointed out by Heads of State and Government at the Summit of the Americas.
  • Participation: people behind the projects. IFAD, 1999.
For the past two decades, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has played a significant role in the struggle against rural poverty, and its experience illustrates that the key to successful poverty alleviation lies in helping the poor to help themselves by listening to the people involved and learning from their different approaches to problem solving.

Participation of the poor, and close cooperation with the community organisations and non-governmental organisations that represent these people, are the hallmarks of IFAD's operations. These operations can help make a difference in the lives of poor farmers, rural women, the landless and other vulnerable groups.

Several initiatives have been developed by PRODEMU Foundation and the Institute of Agricultural Development - INDAP - of Chile to encourage and promote rural women development and their mainstream integration by supporting the consolidation and projection of their association enterprises and rural enterprises.

  • Programa Mujer y Agricultura. (Women and Agriculture Programme)
Oriented to rural women, this programme was promoted by the Instituto Andaluz de la Mujer (Andalusian Institute of Women) and the Consejería de Agricultura y Pesca (Council of Agriculture and Fisheries) within the context of a Collaboration Agreement between both institutions in 1992. It is supported by the European Social Fund through the Community Support Framework 2000-2006.
