ILO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean - Lima,

- Panorama
Laboral 2004 (2004 Labour Overview), ILO Regional Office for
Latin America and the Caribbean, Lima, 2004. The contents of 'Panorama
Laboral 2004' imply a double message. On one hand, most countries'
economies are recovering for the second consecutive year. On the
other hand, such recovery has furthered labour progress in the
region as a whole, but not in all countries. Boosted by significant
economic growth and by a favourable international setting, Latin
America's labour market recorded in 2004 a decline of unemployment
in various countries, a reduction of the regional unemployment
average, a rise of real salaries in nearly all countries and increased
productivity. Yet informal employment grows, social protection
coverage remains stagnant, while women and youth continue to be
the groups most affected by unemployment in the region. This document
offers labour market indicators covering several years for the
different regional countries, built from national household surveys.
