This publication offers an initial collection of works resulting from a research project developed for three years: "Building up labour identities in Social Guarantee Programmes. The incidence of changes of the educational sector on labour training processes." The objective was to understand the impact that the current changes of the Spanish educational system made on its sidelines.

In a complex, controversial and hardly studied scenario, we thought that no theoretical paradigm, academic discipline, or research methodology would be enough to fully understand it. This book is thus presented as a mosaic of views about the same issue; it is plural and even controversial like the actual reality that is being studied.

All these studies include a prior analysis of training policies for work for the young in Latin America. By referring to such a different environment, it is consistent with the rest of the book since it focuses on an analysis of the youth labour training programme -always between the right to receive education and the right to work -in a context in which it is very likely that the target audience might be deprived from both rights, as it occurs at the sidelines and vulnerable areas of the Spanish society.

This paper is therefore a preliminary contribution that is expected to be a productive starting point for further debates, evaluations and opinions about the changes of the educational system today.
