This book edited by Maria de Ibarrola offers a different perspective
to approach the relations between training and work. Instead of selecting
in a lineal way the training programmes, using criteria such as whether
they involve schooling or not, the features of the institutions that
offer them, the follow up of graduates or the effects on employment,
work and income, this book offers an open look to what is going on in
a city or a local context in terms of training for the young.
Six authors participate in this book, Maria de Ibarrola (Mexico), Alfredo
Hualde (Mexico), Claudia Jacinto (Argentina), Marta Novick (Argentina),
Elenice Leite (Brazil) y Maria Antonia Gallart (Argentina) who identify
the main trends, challenges and debate issues as well as the recommended
policies identified through this integral approach. The books also presents
the comments of twenty Latin-American researchers. This collective work
covers the following subjects: the new regionalism, the local structures
and the regional networks on production and work and globalization;
the changes on the concept of youth and young identities regarding school
or work; the new developments regarding codified knowledge in the framework
of the economics of knowledge and the new concept and management of
training as the axis of innovation and competitiveness; the different
settings where the young are trained beyond school training or vocational
training, the main partners that support policies and training activities;
and ; the progress in the comprehension of the relations between education,
work and economic development.
