Regional economic integration is one of the most important phenomena in the current world situation and a fundamental aspect of the evolution it is likely to undergo in the near future.

All more or less advanced integration experiences have a social dimension, in which vocational training is present as a link between the educational and labour systems. The first objective of this volume is to check out the "sate of the art" of this situation in the various regional blocks. In doing so, it underscores the "hypertext" or variegated nature of vocational training: it is simultaneously a fundamental right, a tool for employability, an instrument for active employment policies, a requirement for adaptability and "polyfunctionality", an essential precondition for introducing certain forms of labour organisation and achieving high competitiveness. Hence, the crucial role it plays in the success of regional integration.

The book also includes an extensive Documentary Annex with the texts of the main legal standards and programmes on the subject in the European Union, Mercosur, the North American Free Trade Association and the Andean and Central American integration processes.
