text in pdf format only available in Spanish )
This work proposes a model of Occupational Education to
be applied to low-income rural and urban populations. It is the result
of a Project of Education for Work (Spanish acronym POCET) carried out
in the Republic of Honduras from 1990 to 1996, although it also reflects
the knowledge derived from experiences in adult education in other parts
of the world, Latin American countries in particular.
The model proposed stems from a process of experimentation
and systematisation that can be considered a scientific method applicable
to populations similar to the one that was the subject of the test,
that is to say, rural population groups practising survival agriculture
with low rates of schooling, high illiteracy and precarious support
services. It can likewise be applied to semi-urban sectors with high
poverty indexes.
The book is intended for the use of high-level decision
makers, professionals and technicians who take on operational responsibilities
at intermediate public levels, and directors of private organisations
participating through education, in particular the education of young
people and adults, both men and women.
Many organisations and institutions took part in this
methodological experience, as well as individual professionals and technicians.
However, its main actors were the groups and persons from the communities
involved, who played a leading part in this process of Education for
Work.
