Secretaría del Trabajo y Previsión Social - STPS
(Labour and Social Security Secretariat)

www.stps.gob.mx

In December 31st, 1940 the Secretariat and State Departments Law was reformed in order to create the Labour and Social Security Secretariat.

The Labour and Social Security Secretariat has as one of its main strategies of labour policy the promotion of the advantages that training represents and the improvement of the productivity of the work centres. The activities have been oriented to the following main goals:

  • To guide enterprises in the development of actions of training, improvement of the productivity and of the working conditions, as well as the implementation of modern systems of remuneration
  • To offer technical assistance and economic support to enterprises or groups of enterprises to do training programmes and productivity improvement. The actions have been oriented to small and medium enterprises where more than 70% of the country occupation is generated.

The STPS through the general direction of training and productivity has as one of its functions to give support to the training activities that the different working places offer. It also, promotes and watches over the enforcement of the legal requirements of enterprises and training agents.

In order to carry out the training and productivity processes technical guides for self-management have been elaborated. These guidelines allow institutions to use its resources in a more efficient way through methodologies and other instruments that are easy to apply.

The STPS, in order to support micro, small and medium enterprises in the increase of productivity and the improvement of the quality of their business has developed technical guidelines for: clothing, restaurants, wood products and auto-mechanic shops. These guidelines are for self-application, redacted in a simple language and represent a novel alternative, with less investment to train personnel and also facilitate creativity and modular consultancy.
