Alliance between SENA and Compartel
21,000 places for virtual training in Colombian municipalities

  • It benefits Colombians who live in 385 marginal towns in the country.
  • There will first be 30 centres that will be totally free and will offer training in the occupations required by such municipalities.
  • They seek to improve the working possibilities of youth of the Atlantic Coast, the Coffee Stripe, the South, Centre, West and East of the country.

Bogotá D.C., 21 June 2006 - Twenty thousand Colombians who are part of marginal towns in the country have the possibility of accessing free training for work through the Internet.

To do so, SENA carried out an alliance with Compartel programme of the Ministry of Communications. This programme enables students to access the Internet services offered by these centres (placed in 385 municipalities of Colombia) free of charge and take up some of the 30 courses offered by SENA in Virtual Environments.

"This training will enable the people of the poorest municipalities in the country to acquire basic knowledge and therefore improve their possibilities of finding a job. That is why we make a call to the mayors of the municipalities that have Compartel Telecentres to invite their people and disseminate the advantages of this free Virtual Training programme", said Jiovany Orozco Parra, coordinator of Tele-Information Technology and Educational Technology of SENA.

The 30 courses that meet the needs of municipalities and that will be gradually expanded are distributed among eight occupational areas: Primary and Extracting Exploitation; Information Technology (TIC); Art, Culture and Sports; Social and Educational Science; Governmental Services; Operation of the Industrial and Transport Equipment; Processing, Manufacturing and Assembly.

How to access

People interested should make a pre-enrolment on a particular course (from any place with Internet access) on the www.senavirtual.edu.co Web page by clicking on the Alianza SENA-Compartel banner.

Then, the person has to bring his or her identity card to the Compartel Telecentre and ask the administrator for a PIN, which is totally free of charge and gives access to the Internet and the selected course (of a duration of 40 hours).
The PIN can only be used in the Telecentre where it was obtained and where the virtual training will be advanced.
During the course, the student will have the assistance and follow-up of SENA instructors who will be in charge of guiding him or her to solve problems and clear up doubts.
