Spain: Key socioeconomic indicators

The Institute of Youth is an agency ascribed to the Ministry of Labour and Social Issues through the general Secretary of Social Affairs.

Its main goals are to promote the cultural communication among young people, promote youth associations, develop and coordinate and informational and documentation system, maintain international relations and cooperation, cooperate with the Comunidades Autonomas in issues related to the youth and to promote the exchange among young people at the national and international level.

In order to achieve the above, the INJUVE:

  • Develops programmes of Solidarity and Tolerance and contributes to the prevention of racism and violence
  • Favours the exchanges and mobility of Spanish young people through European cards and programmes.
  • Supports the young associations and the associations that offer services for the young at the state level.
  • Creates culture and art activities directed to promote the creativity of the young people.
  • Elaborates studies and research on youth and maintains a specialized documental fund.
  • Organizes the Young Forum Debate and educational activities and studies.
  • Coordinates a youth informational system in cooperation with the Comunidades Autónomas.
  • Participates in pilot initiatives on Employment and Housing for young people.
