HEART Trust, the
National Training Agency's window to the world is a major public relations
tool that provides information and access to the functions and activities
of the organization and links to training and certification opportunities.
The homepage consists
of three groups of links and provides access as follows:
MENU 1: History:
Labour Market Research: Annual Reports
: National Training
Register: News Archive/Photo Gallery: Related Links
The links on the
left of the page begins with a comprehensive documentation of HEART's
history, its mandates, its resources, the structure of the organization,
which includes all its departments, and a map of all its locations
across the island. There are descriptions of the functions of all
major divisions and units and these include contact information for
users.
Users can use
these links to also access annual reports, strategic plans, memoranda
of agreements with key partners and statistics on training in institutions
and communities. HEART's News Archive and Photo Gallery presents a
record of most of the major activities of the Trust for the past two
years. The gallery is dynamic and represents mainly the current activities.
A comprehensive
'links page' provides users with access to related sites that include
some of HEART's partners and other entities in the fields of social
development, education, tourism, training, government and so on.
MENU 2: Compliance:
Career Development Services
: Certification: Learning:
Regional Initiatives:
This second group
of links which is at the top of the page provides access to HEART's
Revenue collection procedures, brief information on certification
possibilities accessed through the National Council on TVET (NCVTVET),
curricula and standards used in training and available from the Media
Services and information on the activities of the organization throughout
the Caribbean region as it assists other Caribbean societies with
TVET development.
The CAREER link
is a major one that takes users to another site within the main HEART
site. This link provides access to career guidance and counseling
services and points users to all institutions within HEART and in
Jamaica where training can be accessed.
The CAREER site
is intended to be very interactive, though some of the interactivity
features are still being tested. Users will be able to access assessment
instruments that help them to determine the type of career they may
be best suited for, guidance on preparing for a career, basic information
on programme/course offerings at over 80 institutions across the island
and entrepreneurship information that includes guides to setting up
a business.
One key feature
that is not yet active but due to become so within the next few months
is access by employers to a graduate database including resumes, that
will facilitate employee search in any sector of the labour market.
This feature will also facilitate job searches by trainees in any
parish in the island.
The Career link
can be accessed independent of the HEART site at www.cardef.org
MENU 3: VTDI:
Lifelong Learning: Revised TVET Model: RBH : Jobs at HEART:
NCTVET: Visit a Jamaican Training Institution
The links in the
arc on the homepage provide yet another opportunity to access information
on key units with their own intranets/webpages and on major conferences,
competitions, celebrations and so on conducted by the organization.
These links are
very dynamic and change as often as the currency of the activity dictates.
Here access is
provided to the work of the NCTVET (National Council on Technical
Vocational Education & Training) and will eventually link to their
site which is currently being refurbished. Other links include the
Runaway Bay HEART Hotel & Training School's site, jobs that are
available within the organization and to the Vocational Training Development
Institute (VTDI), which is the professional training arm of the organization.
The VTDI offers tertiary level training in areas such as entertainment
management, information technology and career Guidance and Counselling
and has a dynamic outreach programme.
Links to come
A learning management
system is being developed that will provide direct access to the individual
institutions and departments, but will come on stream in April 2004.
