The ILO Office for Pretoria covers the countries of Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland.

The Office implements the mandate of the ILO within the sub region, including the delivery of technical cooperation in collaboration with other ILO technical departments.

    World Day on Safety and Health at work 2012:Promoting safety and health in green economy

    The 2012 World Day for Safety and Health at Work focuses on the promotion of occupational safety and health (OSH) in a green economy. There is a shift in the world to a greener and more sustainable economy. However, even if certain jobs are considered to be green, the technologies used may protect the environment but not be safe at all.

    Meeting on the ILO Gateway: Joint Planning and Implementation Event

    To meet constituents’ increasing demands and improve the quality of the ILO’s services, the Programme and Budget for 2012-13 gives high priority to information and knowledge management as a means of optimizing operational efficiencies.

    The task forces, which report to the Knowledge Management Steering Committee on a regular basis, are expected to work in an integrated manner across the Office, closely involving all technical units, in particular the field structure and the ITC ILO.

    COSATU National Gender Conference Declaration

    150 delegates from COSATU affiliates and provinces, sister trade unions federation FEDUSA, labour service organisations and community organisations gathered at St George Hotel in Johannesburg to assess the state of the gender struggle in COSATU and beyond.

    The focus was to mainstream gender issues into political programmes, as well as to strengthen gender structures, to tackle particular instances of discrimination and victimisation in patriarchal society.

    Founding of Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA)

    Through the merger the trade union movement in Swaziland is placed at an advantaged position to advance the aspirations and interests of the workers and the wider society.

    The congress debates outlined TUCOSWA priorities and the areas that require follow up towards the realization of the core values and fundamental objectives around which TUCOSWA is being founded.

    Congress discussions offered delegates the opportunity to seriously reflect, debate and agree on how to move TUCOSWA forward.
