Flechsenhar Director Mr. Flechsenhar, a Germany national, has been with the ILO since 1989. He first joined ILO as a Training Specialist in the field of workers’ education. In 1992 he was appointed the deputy director of the Bureau for Workers’ Activities and assumed the directorship of the department in March 1999, a post he held until his appointment to Zimbabwe. He has vast experience in social dialogue, tripartism and technical cooperation issues as well as in research and academia. Mr. Flechsenhar has overall responsibility for the activities of the ILO/Sub-Regional Office (SRO) for the Southern African region and for the work programme of the technical staff concerned. His task is, in particular, to maintain dialogue with the ILO's Constituents in the region - governments, employers' and workers' organizations - on issues pertaining to employment, training, labour and social protection and to ensure that the ILO/SRO provides timely and effective services to the constituents in the region in its areas of competence. The work also involves close cooperation with other UN Agencies, as well as with non-governmental organizations, the academia and sub-regional and regional structures, which share the objectives and values of the ILO. |
