The ILO Office in Zambia was established in 1968 following an agreement signed between the Government of the Republic of Zambia and the International Labour Office. Originally, the Lusaka Office was responsible for eight countries in the Southern Africa region, namely: Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The office also organised and supported ILO assistance to liberation movements of South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Following the end of the apartheid regime in South Africa and the opening of an ILO office in Pretoria in 1995, the country Office in Lusaka is now responsible for three countries: Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique.

- International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2012
Every 3rd of December, persons with disabilities across all nations gather to commemorate the International Day of the Disabled (IDPD). The event which is observed annually internationally goes way back to 1992 with different themes each year all addressing the various concerns of persons with disabilities with the aim of promoting awareness towards inclusiveness.

23-24 October 2012, Maputo Mozambique
- Decent Work Country program worksohp.
ILO office in Maputo in collaboration with its counterparts in Brasilia, Luanda and Lisbon organized a two day workshop to discuss and share experiences on implementation of Decent Work Country program with emphasis on equality conventions 156-Workers with Family Responsibilities , 183-Maternity Protection and 189-Domestic workers.
The workshop was attended by 20 participants among them government (officials from Ministry of Labor and Ministry of Women), members of Labor Advisory Council-CCT, Employers organization-CTA and workers organizations (OTM.CS, CONSILMO with its respective women’s committees).

- High Level National Policy Dialogue
The Ministry of Labour in collaboration with the International labour Organisation (ILO) held a successful High Level National Policy Dialogue between 22nd and 23rd October 2012 . The Vice President of the Republic of Malawi, Right Honourable Khumbo Kachali officially opened the policy dialogue
In his remarks, the Vice President observed that the policy dialogue has come at an opportune time when Malawi is working hard to reverse the trend in economic challenges. While making reference to Malawi’s economic development frameworks of MGDS II, Economic Recovery Plan, and Malawi Decent Work Programme, the Vice President placed employment creation at the centre stage of development.

25 September 2012, Lusaka Zambia
- GRZ-UN Joint Programme on Gender Based Violence launched
The Government of Republic of Zambia (GRZ) and the United Nations (UN) launched a four-year GRZ-UN Joint Programme, with a budget of USD 15.5 million, to reduce Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Zambia.
ILO and Six UN agencies including, UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA, WHO, UNHCR and IOM will work together with the Gender and Child Development Division, the Human Rights Commission, ministries, the House of Chiefs and faith based and Civil Society Organizations to effectively implement the programme.
